A Success Story - a great role model

Kieran Drake was one of the first Masterlink apprentices, and consequently was among the first to complete the four-year apprenticeship.

What set Kieran apart from the others of his intake was that he took away the industry's top training award, the 2007 James Douglas Medallion. Along the way, he picked up a Plumbing World Scholarship in 2006, and passed his registration exams in 2006 and 2007.

Southland born and bred, he had to leave his home in Otautau to take up an apprenticeship with Lindsay Walker, who later joined with Peter Faul to establish Advantage Plumbing and Drainage in Queenstown.

He took up the apprenticeship programme determined to do well all the way through, and approached it with discipline and determination. He tackled his units as soon as they arrived, kept all his correspondence up to date, studied hard and put a lot of hard work into relating the practical work with the theory he studied.

After completing his apprenticeship he joined the team at Advantage, and already has an apprentice working with him. He is now working towards his Certifier qualifications, and his long term plan is to own his own plumbing business.

Kieran would recommend plumbing as a career to any young person, and thinks Masterlink offers the best pathway into the industry.
